Day 7 - From Wittenberg to Mühlberg

Published: 07.07.2019

Let's start with the weather. The bad news first: it had noticeably cooled down and there was no trace of sun anymore. The good news: the rain, which had started in the evening and forced us to move our dinner indoors, had completely stopped by the morning. So we stayed completely dry today as well. But the wind was a topic again. It blew strongly and was very unpleasant, unless it was directly from behind. Nevertheless, we made good progress. In the early afternoon, we arrived in Torgau, which is the city where Russians and Americans met at the end of World War II. Accordingly, there is also a monument there. However, the highlight of the day came at the end. We had booked an overnight stay at Forsthaus Dröschkau through HRS, in the middle of the forest about 5 km south of Belgern. The navigation system led us there through adventurous unpaved paths. When we finally reached our destination after well over 90 km, we had to realize that the hotel was apparently no longer in operation, although events for the whole year 2019 were still advertised on a large sign. Since no one responded to the phone number provided there, we had to find an alternative. That was not so easy, as there was also no mobile internet possible there. Therefore, we decided to drive to the next smaller city, Mühlberg an der Elbe. There should be at least some hotels there. After already 106 kilometers of the day, we had to realize that these hotels were apparently also no longer in operation. Thank God, we were able to secure a very nice room in a small cyclist's guesthouse, so that we were spared another night under the bridge. The next problem was food, as there was no longer any open restaurant either. The rescue here was a small event in the local sports club, where we could refresh ourselves with schnitzel, bratwurst, and fries. So all's well that ends well.
