Hi, it looks like only a few pictures were uploaded, so here comes my story!!
3 days at one spot was not planned. I need to cover ground again. Next stop: Steamboat Springs in northern Colorado. Next to my camp, Cottonwood Pass would have brought me over to Alpine Nathrop and up 24 towards Vail... But it was closed for paving. So I started north on Co 135 to Crested Butte (a great little resort village) with the Kepler Dirt Road pass in mind. Luckily, I did not know what was coming. Leaving Crested Butte, the road changed to dirt. Then wet dirt. Slippery when wet 😀 - but no yellow sign, so okay, slow riding with no front brake use at all. It changed to pavement for half a mile. Then down the pass on dry gravel. After a mile, a road contractor stopped me and told me that the real fun would start now. They maintain the road by watering it with a Chloride water mix and grading it with Cat graders. All right in front of me for the next 7 miles downhill. FU... going back would have meant a 200 mile detour, so sh.. One day lost. I already did 100. I have never ridden on something like that. Actually, it was more like surfing, only my board weighs 560 lbs. 1st and 2nd gear, no brakes. Sweating like hell, I made it!!
From the really scary parts, I do not have a picture, too scared to stop.
After that fantastic ride to Steamboat Springs, especially the part in the Colorado River backroad valley from Dotsero to McCoy. Great. Dirt again, but better.
Camping north of Steamboat in NF Seed House. Just fantastic, the end of the world with great neighbors. 100 spots, 4 occupied. 👍👍
