Our first destination was Drottningholm Palace - the residence of the royal family. In the subway, we bought a day ticket for 260 SEK. With that, we could use all public transportation in Stockholm.
After about 40 minutes and a ride on the subway and bus, we reached the beautiful palace. It was situated on the shores of Lake Mälaren, basking in the sunshine and looking like a fairytale castle. We didn't go inside, but we enjoyed walking around the palace grounds and gardens. The huge estate is home to many water birds and requires extensive maintenance. Gardeners were trimming various hedges and plants at every corner.
Afterwards, we returned to the city center and let ourselves get swept away by the crowds. Stockholm has some beautiful churches. We visited a few of them as well.
