Great Ocean Road - the journey is the destination

Published: 27.10.2019

Landed in Melbourne, the first thing I did was pick up my rental car. This time I didn't get an SUV, but a Honda Civic with only 420 kilometers on the clock, so fairly new. You could tell right away, as soon as I turned on the blinker, the radio display came on and I saw the traffic behind me. The left side mirror has a built-in camera and it transmits the image to the display when I blink... crazy world...

First thing I did was change all the clocks to the new time, Melbourne is one hour ahead of Brisbane. This time all the clocks played along...

I immediately set off towards the Great Ocean Road, as I still had about 150 kilometers to drive to my hotel. I wanted to see some highlights along the way. The following day, another 150 kilometers with more lookouts and beautiful views.

I don't want to write a lot of text, the Great Ocean Road offers truly magnificent nature. Rainforests, eucalyptus forests, beautiful bays, steep coasts... Today I'll rather put in a few more pictures. I will reveal this much, you will also see a wild koala with its young, even though they are a bit hidden... Maybe just a little bit about the history of the Great Ocean Road: The construction of the road began exactly 100 years ago, in 1919. In fact, it was just a job creation measure for 3,000 returning soldiers from World War I. The road was built until 1932.

I have captioned the pictures as much as I could remember, what they were called and where they were...
