The night was mosquito-free and once again satisfying. The alarm was set for 7 o'clock, after all, we wanted to fortify ourselves with a rich breakfast before our tour today and enjoy the super sanitary facilities. Who knows how long we will still have such luxury.
The tour started as planned at 9 o'clock in the north. Past the remaining Lake Vättern, then along the largest lake in Sweden, Lake Vänern, up to the Fulufjället National Park. The total distance today was 476km.
On the way, we noticed how the mixed forests and flatland gradually transformed into coniferous forests and mountainous landscapes. But the lake landscape has not changed, there are plenty of them here! The weather matched the forecast, until noon there were occasional rain showers. But then the sky cleared up and we made a short stop at "Restaurang Och Rum" in Tyfors. The restaurant is run by a Dutchman who speaks not only Dutch but also Swedish, English, and German. Respect!
Afterwards, we continued our journey and it happened as we had often heard before our vacation: kilometers without seeing a car. Neither coming towards us nor overtaking from behind. But if another camper van crosses the path, they always wave friendly - no matter which nationality. A wonderful custom! Camper van drivers among themselves.
So we sat in the vehicle all day and approached our destination, the parking lot near the national park. However, Google Maps was not kind to us for the last 20 km. It led us along a road that was more like a gravel road for military vehicles, already demolished by tracked vehicles, so that it rattled and clattered. With something between walking speed and 20km/h, we dragged ourselves along this wrong way - it would have been great with an off-road vehicle. But for the 20 km, it took us more than 1 hour! At least the GoPro camera was running and filmed this disaster.
We arrived without major damage and set up our camp in Mörkret right by the river. The "check-in" works as follows. There is a small notice board with envelopes. There you enter the duration, the license plate number, and the type of accommodation (camper van or tent), and whether you use electricity. Then you put the specified amount of money in the envelope, seal it, and drop it in the mailbox. There is still a detachable section that you have to put in the vehicle. That's it, like a cash box of trust.
After we took care of that, we marked our territory again with a table and chairs, set the dinner table, and then took another walk to explore the surroundings with the photo equipment. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes here are a completely different story. Mosquito bracelets and bug spray are not enough, you have to defend yourself against these creatures with long clothing, a hood, and waving around. But all of this cannot dampen our anticipation for tomorrow, because it will be a hiking day, we will go to the highest waterfall in Sweden. After 2 days of sitting in the car, our limbs need to be challenged again.
So here we go again
