An exciting week is behind us: laundry, grocery shopping, stocking up on travel pharmacy, writing lists, checking off, writing new lists... In the end Thursday evening we had all our piles and boxes ready and were eagerly awaiting the appointment to pick up the motorhome.
So here we were on Friday waiting. Looking at the clock - only 5 minutes have passed. In the afternoon André moved our car and made room for Robby's vehicle. And waiting again. Wow, this is taking forever... when are we finally going to start ???
Then the time had come, we drove through Dresden by tram, saw all the crazy Kaiser fans on their way to the concert venue at the Elbe... But we didn't really care about that. The inner excitement, the tingling in the stomach area was getting stronger and stronger the closer we got to the handover location. And then it was there, in full size and power, with alcove (for the uninformed: the sleeping compartment above the cab) 3.10m high, 7.30m long and 2.30m wide! Our mobile home for the next 2 weeks... Joy and respect for this monster were balanced. After a detailed instruction from the very sympathetic Mr. H. (who, by the way, is also such a list-paper person :-)) and his wife (who spontaneously wanted to get on board and ride along), the first test drove André: get in, start the engine and maneuver the monster to Klotzsche. Well, he took the exit from the rental company a bit tight, but nothing happened! Mom almost tore off the door handle again and gave up this annoying habit of taking short but noisy breaths, combined with valuable tips like "Watch out, the mirror! Don't drive so far to the right! Brake, it's red!"
The driveway at home also fit on the first try, all concrete columns, trees and houses are still standing! And in my defense I have to say that I took my little bunny to my arms and assured him how proud I am of him! He really mastered the first ride suuuper. Next time I'll sit in the back too ;-)
So. Take a deep breath, let it sink in, we have arrived. First inspect what's inside, how much storage space we have available (a lot !!!) and connect the power, the fridge should already get cold. Now we're getting to work, the piles and boxes still have to be put into the giant thing. But at Mom's request, everything was first placed in front of it, I have to take a photo for the blog! By the way, I think my environment is slowly getting annoyed with the word "blog", but I don't really care :-D
On the photo it doesn't look like much what had to be loaded, but don't be fooled. Clothes, bedding, towels, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, medicine, food and drinks in large quantities, a grill with a gas bottle, drying rack and much more... everything is there and arranged according to a well-thought-out system: "There's still space here, something can fit in there".
We were finished just in time for Robby's arrival around 10:30 pm. Robby found our motorhome - I'm running out of descriptions to describe the size of this vehicle - terrific. Immediately his 3 rags (including drone, various cameras and other technology) found their way into empty spaces and a brief chat on the couch ended the day around 12:30 am.
The falling asleep unexpectedly went quite well. My night was over at 7 though. Gradually the rest of the team also woke up. With Robby I drove to the discount store and bought camping toilet paper and sanitary chemicals (something is always missing). For the journey we also stocked up on fresh supermarket pastries and you could already complain about the weather. You want to go on vacation and it's pouring like crazy !!
Last touches were done quickly, now we can get started.
We greet all those who stayed at home and wave to you, by now in sunshine, with a big smile on our faces!
