No plan survives the first enemy contact. (Helmuth von Moltke)

Published: 29.08.2017

Our plan for today was to go hiking, preferably climbing one of the surrounding mountains. We got up relatively early, fortified ourselves and set off.

As we have noticed several times on our journey, unfortunately, even in otherwise beautiful places, there is a lot of garbage lying around.

Our first attempts to reach higher into the mountains unfortunately failed. All paths ended sooner or later. Further up in the village, we met a nice man who informed us that we would never get any further with our shoes (sneakers).

So we had to change our daily planning. First, we took a closer look at the village and observed how people live here.

The view from the village to the lake on one side and the mountains on the other side is definitely breathtaking.

Afterwards, we went back to our accommodation. For lunch, we ate again at 'Kafe Mistrao' and later we went back to Lake Baikal. There we had dinner and lit a little fire.

Later, we played in the accommodation while having a beer.

Unfortunately, our time at Lake Baikal is coming to an end. Our journey will also no longer continue to the east, but the next few days will go to the west. Tomorrow after breakfast and packing, we will take a taxi to Baikalsk. From there, it's another three-hour train ride to Irkutsk. There we will still have plenty of time to stock up with enough food for the upcoming train ride. We will then board the Trans-Siberian Railway around midnight for our longest train ride at a stretch.

Last greetings from Lake Baikal
