From Hanover to Mallorca by car

After 15 years of holidaying in Denmark, we finally want to go to Mallorca. This has been planned for a long time, but my favorite man has always been held back by his fear of flying.

For the past three months, his granddaughter has been working in Cala Bona as an educator, and the longing for her has grown stronger...

But flying? NO!!

For years, I’ve been nagging him about taking the car south, but he always thought I was crazy. And then to an island...

What’s the problem? You just need to plan a bit more time. Of course. But then you see so much, feel the atmosphere of different countries, and breathe the air... I have always imagined it to be extremely beautiful. Just a little adventure!

Long story short... the longing for his granddaughter was stronger, and he was convinced. He even looked forward to the trip in the end!!

The planning begins three weeks before departure. But what really needs to be planned?

Of course, accommodation. Just hearing Cala Rajada or Palma makes the hairs on my neck stand on end...

But cheers to Google... We found a beautiful finca in Betlem (in the northeastern part of the island) that looks great in the photos. On one side mountains, on the other side the sea. The house is supposed to have a sea view. My husband doesn’t believe it... Let’s see...

Next, we book the ferry crossing.

We opted for the night ferry with Trasmed. Departing at 22:45 from Barcelona, arriving at 06:00 in Palma. For the outbound journey, we booked a cabin. For the return trip, we booked 2 seats since we’re traveling during the day. Around €310 for 2 people round trip. However, this is in mid-September. Perhaps it's more expensive in the high season...

We planned our adventure in three stages. Day 1 to Alsace (we have already booked an apartment here. In a retirement home in Mulhouse. They rent out when their apartments are not occupied. Cool!!)

So packed 2 suitcases, an electric cooler with sandwiches and drinks on the back seat and off we go... (A major advantage is that you can take more than 20 kg in the car. That's why our Nespresso could come along too. And a few more shoes... And 2 more pairs of pants, 5 more T-shirts, and a few kitchen utensils...)

That was all the planning and preparation

We divided the tour into three stages. Stage 1: Saturday morning leisurely departure, driving 680 km and spending the night in Mülheim / Alsace.

So the first day is mainly through Germany with only a few kilometers left to cover. We plan the 2nd stage relaxed in the evening in Mulhouse.
