Mexico - Yucatan: Day 1

Published: 02.12.2018

Day 1 (30.11.2018): Finally, I arrived in Cancun after a 13-hour flight, feeling exhausted and with a sore throat. :-( After collecting my luggage, I started looking for the ADO bus that would take me to the Central bus station in Cancun Downtown, where my hostel was located. After some walking around and asking for directions, I finally had my bus ticket in hand, costing 82 Mexican Pesos - approximately 3.55€. The bus was freezing cold due to the air conditioning, but it had WiFi. The bus was crowded, with only a handful of tourists and the rest were locals. After a 20-minute bus ride - it was already dark - I arrived there. I remembered the warning on the website of the Foreign Office: it's recommended to avoid walking around Cancun at night. Hm, okay, it was around 8:30 PM local time and the streets looked busy. I was grateful for my offline map, which helped me quickly find my hostel. Carrying a heavy backpack and a small backpack in front of me, I had to cross two streets. Not an easy task, as the cars were driving like on a highway. There were no traffic lights. Eventually, I just started running and was relieved when I safely reached the other side of the street. Totally sweaty - it was still around 25° - I arrived at the hostel. I quickly took a shower and then went to bed.
