Spannende Zeit euch... und Berichte cosi 😘Published: 25.10.2017
First of all: We arrived well in Accra!
In the few days we have been here, we have already collected incredible impressions and let life in Ghana sink in for a moment.
For the first week we are staying at Laud's house, which is about 20 minutes away from the center of Accra. We are living here with his two brothers and other volunteers, with whom we share all the facilities. We are considered as part of the family and feel very comfortable. We cook, eat and spend our free time together.
There is a public school near our accommodation. In this school, Laud is already supporting 15 students. More about this will be in a separate blog entry in the coming weeks. There are two pre-school classes and 9 regular classes. Due to the open construction of the school - there are no doors or window panes - the noise level is relatively high. The class sizes vary between 20 and 40 children, with the number of boys being considerably higher than the number of girls. The children seemed very lively and open-minded towards us, while the teachers were partially strict. The so-called cane, a thin wooden cane, is still used for punishment. The lessons are designed with a lot of dance and singing, which makes them very lively. The children showed great curiosity towards us and some of them visited us after school to play together. A video of the dancing and singing children will follow when we have better internet!
Of course, we have already explored the surroundings a bit and took a Trotro towards the center to the Madina market. When we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the lively hustle and bustle and the vastness of the market. All our senses were stimulated: fruits and clothes in all shapes and colors, strong-smelling fish, running traders, heavy traffic and people greeting each other.
In conclusion for the first blog entry from Ghana, we can say that we have been very well received, have already settled in well and are excited about the coming time.
Miadogo,
