March 15, 2017 San Pedro de Atacama

Finally two days in one place. It's worth unpacking properly.

On the way, we passed huge mines. The Chileans are digging up the whole country between Calama and San Pedro de Atacama in search of copper. The excavators on the side of the road are simply enormous.

Our hotel - beautiful bungalows, but just as neglected as everywhere else. The price-performance ratio is simply outrageous. However, the hotel staff are very nice and friendly. We cycled to all the hotels in San Pedro de Atacama hoping to find a better one.

According to the description it is the driest desert in the world, where it never rains! Due to a storm, we were stuck in a restaurant for over an hour. The roads there are unpaved and turn into a red mud pit after rain. It looks especially good on a mountain bike.
