For the equivalent of 5 Euros, we went on the Ganges River for a 3-hour rafting tour. Of course, they tried to sell all kinds of extras to the tourists, like videos with the action camera, to increase the price. Luckily, I didn't fall for it and just looked forward to the upcoming boat ride. In the boat, Lisa, a slightly overweight but extremely athletic older lady from London, and a very introverted Indian couple joined us. We went 16 km downstream, passing 9 rapids, towards Rishikesh.
Thanks to Lisa, we laughed non-stop. Even when mortal remains were being burned on the riverbank again, Lisa couldn't resist making a joke, which ended in loud laughter. But the biggest laugh came when she fearlessly walked past everyone to jump off a cliff and ripped her pants when she landed in the water.
Although no one fell into the water during the entire ride, it was not exactly harmless. This was partly thanks to our young helmsman, who knew his way around and maneuvered into the especially wild zones.
With aching abdominal muscles from laughing so much and a sunburn in tow, I enjoyed the rest of the day with a little window shopping and listening to Harry Potter as an audiobook at sunset.
