Gold Coast: Beach, Surfing, and Good Music

Published: 22.05.2018

I believe the past few days have been the most relaxed in weeks. Every day we sleep as long as we want, pack some food and our swimwear, and off we go to the beach or in another direction to explore. Our newest favorite place here is Broadbeach. Besides the fact that every beach here is breathtakingly beautiful, Broadbeach also offers a variety of restaurants, shopping malls, and other stores and activities. One evening, we treated ourselves here and went to the cinema to watch Ryan Reynolds crack jokes (Deadpool 2 for those who don't understand this description ;)) and ate caramel popcorn. The shopping center where the cinema is located is really impressive and absolutely huge. One could easily spend three days there and still not see it all (though with the corresponding wallet... Chanel, Tiffany's, and co. are probably not in our price range).

From last Thursday to Sunday, we were able to enjoy a lot of sunshine and good music at Broadbeach. The largest free blues music festival in Australia took place here with a large number of stages and artists. We really enjoyed our time there in the evenings. We walked from one stage to the next, watched street performers, and tried good food. Sometimes, acts could be found in places where you wouldn't expect them... The atmosphere was simply amazing! The photos above might give you a little impression of the flair of this festival. Listening to live music at the beach? Just fantastic!

Also at Broadbeach: The fulfillment of a small dream... Surfing! We dared and took a little introductory surfing course, and who would have thought, a little natural talent showed itself ;) Tobi didn't need to be shown much and quickly stood on the board... and me? Well, I admired my quick learner and swallowed a lot of saltwater. A couple of times, I also stood, although not for long. But it was definitely fun, and Tobi couldn't stop smiling. It's a very special feeling to glide over the waves with a board and shoot towards the beach at a relatively high speed. Tobi immediately expanded his newfound passion and rented a surfboard for further practice. After all, we shouldn't embarrass ourselves in Bali when we try it again there. What was I doing in the meantime? I diligently worked on my sunburn (with success, of course!). Unfortunately, we weren't able to take many photos since we were both participating in the course, but we can't keep a photo with a board and a very happy Tobi from you.

Greetings to Germany :)
