Llamas, alpacas and the Devil's Moor

Our next stop heading north was Worpswede, which emerged from a small settlement in the Teufelsmoor in the 19th century.

Herzfeldhof Worpswede

We spent the night at the Herzfeldhof, where alpacas, horses and llamas live.

During a short tour of the farm grounds, we were watched with interest by some animals.

While it was still quite wet from above on the way here, it had now stopped raining and we could see the surrounding fields under blue skies, even though the ground was still quite muddy.

The next morning we set off for a hike in the Heidmoor in the Teufelsmoor.

Hike in the Heidmoor

Unlike the days before, the sun shone in the morning and we got really warm while hiking.

Unfortunately, the paths were still quite muddy from the rain and so we sometimes had to concentrate more on moving forward without slipping than on the landscape.

The slowworms that sunned themselves on the path were also dangerous if you weren't careful enough as a hiker...

When we had almost finished our 12-kilometer-long walk, the paths were unfortunately completely flooded, so it was not possible to continue.

However, we managed to get to a parallel path and were able to complete our hike without having to go all the way back.

We continued to Wischhafen to take the ferry across the Elbe to Glückstadt.

Now we were back in Schleswig-Holstein and drove home so that our motorhome could be repaired in the workshop. While we were on the road, we had already booked an alternative holiday that was to start four days later...
