On June 5th, we took the bus from Seattle to Bellingham.
Since we couldn't bring the bikes with us, we brought them up the day before by rental car (a little complicated, we know - but that's sometimes how it is when you're traveling with bikes).
So we took the bus to Bellingham and stayed there for one night with Jeremy (a great guy). Visited a classical concert (symphony) for the first time.
On the next day, we headed to Canada! WUHUUUU!!!!!!!!!!
It has been over 4 years since I was an au pair in Canada for 7 months.
Fortunately, we were able to stay with my former host family in Coquitlam (about 40 minutes from Vancouver). Thank you again Gabor & Andrea for that!
It was really cool. The area is growing, and suddenly there are breweries everywhere. We were invited right away - we have to try them all ;-)
We spent a day exploring Vancouver, and otherwise it was nice to explore the Coquitlam and Port Moody areas again. Walked along the newly created mountain bike trails and finally had a little change from constant cycling. I even went for my morning run, which I used to do.
Fortunately, I also got to see Benedict (my aupair child from back then)! He has grown up so much.
As we walked through Coquitlam and Vancouver, the memories came back. It was really a beautiful time here in Canada!
And I can still sing the national anthem:
'Oh Canada, our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing eyes we see thee rise,
The true North strong and free
From far and wide, oh Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
Oh Canada, we stand on guards for thee.
Oh Canada, we stand on guards for thee!'
