THE FESTIVAL 2023

Wotae: 22.07.2023

we are on the go (actually 129: 2)

It is not easy to describe this festival. THE FEST has been held as an event in Karlsruhe under this name since 1985 and was then still 'outside and for free'. In 1993, Fischer Z rocked THE FEST - one thing in particular stayed in memory: there was a thunderstorm and it rained for hours. But hardly anyone went home - neither did we. Fischer Z simply played against the storm. The hill was filled and in happiness. On the way home, we had to climb over a fallen tree - with two bicycles. That too was an unforgettable adventure.

In the meantime, many artists have performed there - including Seeed, Deichkind, Juli, Silbermond, The BossHoss, Culcha Candela, BAB, Gentleman, Peter Fox, Lotte, Die Fantastischen Vier, and many more (there is an entry on Wikipedia for more information). Some even several times. For several years now, there has been a limit on the number of visitors, resulting in entrance control and admission fees.

The largest area is still freely accessible and also offers a lot of music on various stages. Children and athletes get their money's worth, as do fans of classical music: there is always a classical breakfast on Sunday mornings.

Back then, picnic blankets were still spread out and all the delicacies were spread out, which could fit into large bags or baskets. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible. Only the blankets are still there. And packaging boxes in which small amounts of finger food can be taken with you. Cutlery is still not allowed. At least coffee/tea can still be unpacked for personal use. Everything else can be purchased on the premises.

However, if you suffer from claustrophobia, you should think twice about visiting Günther-Klotz-Anlage for THE FEST. No matter when and where - you can always expect a lot of other visitors.

See you soon
