Luang Prabang

Wotae: 21.01.2020

With a rumble in my stomach, we started the morning, again with a minivan, heading to Luang Prabang.
After collecting all the passengers for about an hour, and then circling around the city to ensure that every single seat is occupied, the journey began.
Halfway through the journey, we arrived at a construction site where a truck was blocking the road in a steep curve. At first, there was no progress, but eventually we were able to pass by in a somewhat daring maneuver. Shortly after, we had to change vehicles. The people coming from Luang Prabang got into our van, we got into theirs, and we continued.

Arriving in Luang Prabang, my digestion got worse than in the morning.
I ended up sleeping for most of the afternoon. Silvan treated himself to a foot massage during that time.

We took a short stroll through the night market, which had beautiful souvenirs, but since we didn't have any space for trinkets in our backpacks, we left soon afterwards.

Since I still felt quite sick the next morning, we took the day easy. After visiting the Royal Palace, we checked out two temples. In the late afternoon, we went to a temple on a hill from where we could observe the sunset. It was beautiful, but the real program was something else: "People Watching". Masses of people came, and one person seemed to know less about how to behave in a temple than the other.

Well-rested and feeling quite fit again, we took a tuk-tuk to the Kuang Si Waterfall, 30 km outside of Luang Prabang.
The waterfall is located in the jungle and has many cascades. In the lower pools, you can take a refreshing dip in the pleasantly cool water.
Back in the city, we went to the UXO (unexploded ordnance) Information Center. There, we learned a lot about the "secret war" and its devastating effects. It was very impressive to see that many years after the Vietnam War, there are still so many bombs in Laos and they still cause many injuries and deaths.
