Mountains, mountains, mountains as far as the eye can see and we're right in the middle of it all!
We did two beautiful tracks on our way further north - in the Wanaka area!
One of the two tracks wasn't originally planned. It had rained so much that the Haast Pass was closed and we couldn't reach the starting point of the originally planned track.
That's why we went to the DOC (Department of Conservation = like the ÖAV in Austria) to quickly get precise information about the weather, road conditions and conditions on the mountains. We quickly gathered all the important information and made a new plan. :)
Both tracks were absolutely amazing and offered us a gigantic view over Wanaka and the Rob Roy Glacier.
I have to mention one more thing: To get to the Rob Roy Glacier track, we had to drive on a 30 km long gravel road! However, our car rental agreement stated that we were not allowed to drive on it! We stood in front of the road for about 10 minutes and wondered if we should dare to do it or not!
In the end it was absolutely worth it and nothing happened! Lucky us! :D
