Wildfires Canada

Wotae: 27.08.2018

The last 2 weeks have been strongly influenced by over 500 wildfires raging solely in British Columbia. As of now, 950,000 hectares (as of August 26th - unfortunately a record) have been burned down and there is still no sign of rain. In comparison, Switzerland has about 4 million hectares.

On the island, we've been somewhat spared due to the sea air pushing against the fires, but despite that, I haven't done much since my last update. It's not the same when everything is constantly hazy and the air quality isn't great.

Last Sunday, I had another day off and went for a 15km run. Thankfully, the air was better again since it had rained a little some days before. This run has definitely been one of my highlights so far;

1. I saw two black bears about 100m away crossing the path. There are Canadians who haven't seen a bear in their entire life!

2. I jumped under a 4-minute pace.

3. I ranked 2nd overall (out of 98) (the first time in my life - thanks to not so strong competition).

I also did a few other things, which you can see in the photos.
