Arrival

Wotae: 06.01.2022

I had expected long lines and delays due to Covid, but none of that was the case at Frankfurt airport.

We checked in within 10 minutes, with all the required entry documents for Thailand already checked. The security check also went smoothly.

Now we just had to wait for the 3-hour flight. I don't understand why we were asked to arrive at the airport so early considering the actual circumstances.

Finally, we were allowed to board the huge A 380.

We had previously selected seats on the upper deck online, which turned out to be a very good decision. Out of the 90 available seats, only 10 were occupied. So we had plenty of space. I could make myself comfortable on all 4 seats in the middle row.

While I was busy with the onboard entertainment on the monitor, I didn't even realize that we had taken off.

The A 380 is truly a fantastic aircraft, not only because of its size, but especially because of the relaxed flying experience. You don't even feel like you're flying. One small detail fascinated me. The night lighting in the aisles creates a starry sky on the ceiling, simple but very impressive.

The service staff was completely underwhelmed with the few passengers and spoiled us with all kinds of drinks and snacks. Do you want kitkat or popcorn? Popcorn! You can have both.

It was the most relaxed flight of my flying history.

After a 5.40-hour flight, we landed in Dubai for a layover. We spent the 3-hour layover completely relaxed in a lounge, which we had access to thanks to an American Express Platinum card provided by Darshi. Quiet cozy atmosphere, comfortable upholstered furniture, and completely empty.

Plus free food and drinks. If we had wanted, we could have even taken a shower in clean and stylish bathrooms.

But on the last leg of the flight to Bangkok, the luxury was over, although we still had 3 seats available for both of us, and after more than 6 hours, we landed in Bangkok at sunset.

Everything was very well organized there. And despite the need to check many documents and fill out new ones, everything went very smoothly thanks to good organization and a lot of helpful staff.

Only the border officials were grumpy and meticulous as always and everywhere. But that was also done relatively quickly.

After we picked up our luggage and found our shuttle, we continued. The hotel, shuttle, and PCR test are part of a package required by the Thai authorities for entry.

Bangkok, 8:00 p.m., and still 31° Celsius... I had forgotten how that feels.

After almost 1 hour of driving through the evening city, we finally arrived at the hotel. Finally, eat, shower, rest... and take off the mask that we had to wear throughout the entire journey, and whose elastic band was slowly but surely starting to hurt behind our ears.

Well. The clean and comfortable room is nothing to complain about, but the pre-packaged ready meal provided was very disappointing, cold, and didn't satisfy my hunger.

Finally, we were asked to take the PCR test, which took place in the hotel, and we should receive the results tomorrow morning.

If it turns out negative, we will be able to move freely in Thailand from then on.

But for now, I am tired and looking forward to bed.
