#13 - Sydney & Blue Mountains (23.12. - 28.12.16)

Wotae: 28.01.2017

Blue haze hangs in the air, it smells like eucalyptus, and an impressive mountain landscape stretches up to 1,000 meters high. Welcome to the Blue Mountains!

Our first destination was the famous Three Sisters... an impressive rock formation, but also the ultimate tourist hotspot. Countless tour buses line the roadside and hundreds of people try to take a 'Three-Sister-Selfie'. Nowadays, it's quite normal... and yes... I was right in the middle of it... but it wasn't quite what I had hoped for from the Blue Mountains.

Three Sisters

However, if you take some time and explore the surrounding areas, you can quickly find yourself alone again. And then you can truly enjoy this natural spectacle. Small hiking trails wind through the landscape and before you know it, you'll be standing in front of a waterfall. Just the sound of water, the cries of the circling cockatoos, and if you want, your own echo...
Katoomba Falls

... or sometimes even a yodeling Swiss person.

And then just enjoy the view:

Backpacker Tip: Take advantage of any opportunity for a free shower ;)

After a total of 16 days, 5,280 km traveled, and incredible experiences, we unfortunately arrived in Sydney and at the end of our road trip :(

Goodbye faithful Jucy camper and hello Opera House and Harbor Bridge:

After almost 2.5 months in Australia, I can already say as a interim conclusion that traveling on your own with your own campervan and a relaxed travel partner is much more enjoyable than booking fixed tours through a tour operator. You are more flexible, can spend as much time as you want in all the wonderful places, and most importantly, you can listen to your own music in the van... a feeling of freedom :D

A huge thank you to Lukas! Without you, the tour probably would have been only half as much fun ;)
