Bright sunshine and blue sky, we decide to get up quickly and get going to see the famous Lake Tekapo and the highest mountain Mount Cook. On the way, we see meadows as far as the eye can see. Grazing cows, sheep, ponies, and wildlife.
Unfortunately, more and more clouds follow as we go further. The turquoise of Lake Tekapo did not show itself to us as we expected. The larger lake, Lake Pukaki, offers us a slightly better panorama. We decide to spend the night at the picturesque campground in Mount Cook Village and hope for more hours of sunshine the next day, which will provide us with a better backdrop for our hike. What a windy drive down the valley!
Challenge of the day: Meeting single-lane bridges and narrow roads despite strong crosswinds.
