Cala Mitjana o sa Duaia

Wotae: 06.07.2024

Most of Mallorca consists of a string of coves, each more beautiful than the other. If you investigate further, you quickly realize that other vacationers have fallen for the same trick. The reality is a beautiful cove, many people, little space.

But there are also a few remote spots, but to reach them, you must be willing to carry your swim gear for 1 or two or more kilometers.

We had clear indications that the coves Cala Estreta, Cala Mitjana o sa Duaia, and Cala Torta must be these lonely places. During our coastline drive-by, I already had the three places in sight, especially since they are right next to each other.

To reach them from the land side, you start from Artà. We didn't even have to go into Artà, as the road branches off to the right before the town towards the west and leads through the Parc natural de Llevant. This is a nature park created from a largely abandoned cultural landscape and a significant bird reserve.

Halfway, we cross a mountain pass, and from there, it's downhill towards the coast. Well before reaching the coves, the paths that used to be further extended end at a central parking lot. From there, it's only on foot or by mountain bike.

On the descent towards Cala Torta, we turned back with the bikes as the route was too adventurous. From the parking lot, there was another path a bit north to the beach, so we tried this route. The once concrete track now had many holes, but it was relatively passable until the last hill, but then. Upon reaching the last hill, we faced a rocky track leading to the inviting cove.

Having come this far, we had to make the descent without further thought on how we would climb back up. So we reached Cala Estreta and from there, via a highway-like path along the cliff, to Cala Mitjana.

We were rewarded with almost empty beaches. My first officer took the opportunity to refresh himself, and then we headed back.

Coming back up was much easier. From the parking lot, we still had the ascent to the mountain pass ahead of us. Before the pass, a path branches off to Finca Sa Duaia de Dalt, a restaurant with a hotel. Highly recommended, peaceful, not crowded, a very pleasant atmosphere, we highly recommend it.

After a little refreshment, we made our way home.

In the Restaurant Norai, right at the entrance to our dock, we had the usual nightcap with a great view of the sea.
