The tour on the holiday of August 15, 2024, took us to the Ederplan. We parked in Dölsach at the elementary school. From there, we first had a short drive on asphalt to our uphill journey on a gravel road, which accompanied us for the next 3:45 hours. A gentle average incline of 13.5% allowed us to be in a great fat-burning pulse zone. According to the clock and bike computer, Mini actively burned about 1000 and Stefanie about 800 kilocalories. On the way up, we were overtaken by several e-MTB riders who admired our bio-bikes. After 4 short breaks and consuming muesli bars for energy, we finally reached the Anna Schutzhaus after the final 200 meters of a steep push section (it was really steep).
Before we entered the Schutzhaus, we marched further up on foot for an even better view to the Ederplan summit cross. At Stefanie's request, we left another haiku in the summit book. After a snack at the summit cross and a small nap at 2,061 meters, we trudged back to the Anna Schutzhaus, treated ourselves to two crumbles and quenched our thirst with sparkling elderflower juice.
After the sweat-inducing uphill, we rewarded ourselves with a fantastic downhill - descending the ÖTK hiking trail back to the car. Technically challenging with quite a few push sections (some with very large steps!), we wound our way down into the valley. During our entire downhill, only a single hiker came towards us. All others had presumably already reached the Anna Schutzhaus and hadn't managed to part from the beautiful panorama yet. We completed the 1200 meters of downhill without spills in 1:21.
Back at the car, we groaned under the scorching heat. We quickly packed the bikes onto the roof and made our way back to the campsite in the air-conditioned Asap. Showering, eating, and resting were on the agenda for the rest of the day.
