Now we are already at the top of the South Island - Nelson!
At first sight, we really like the city. It seems to be a bit older, but the many restaurants and cafes bring the city to life.
In Nelson, we planned to go to Abel Tasman National Park. We've heard from many people that we should try paddling in the morning and hiking in the afternoon. Since there are so many options on the internet, the search took a while. But after a long time, we found what we were looking for: paddling in the morning and hiking in the afternoon, all on our own. No tour guide!
In the morning, we were picked up at the hostel and then everything went very quickly. We got an introduction to paddling. Slowly, I realized that paddling alone and without a guide on the open sea is not that easy. But it was really great.
Elli and I paddled in the double kayak, it was really fun. She voluntarily gave me control of the boat.
We paddled almost seven kilometers on the sea. Our highlight: the seal colony. I thought it would be difficult to see seals again after Kaikoura. But it was completely different. There were 20 meters between the animals and our boat.
I have to admit that this was the highlight of my trip so far. I know for sure that there are some people at home who would have had just as much fun on this day.
The hike back along the coast was also beautiful.
Along the many beaches, through forests, and magical blue water, I could hardly believe my luck that I am here.
The day was really beautiful, so we were really exhausted in the evening.
Now we are heading along the West Coast towards the south, and the next few weeks will be really exciting!
