Campbell Lake

Hello,

today we had great weather again when we woke up in the Walmart parking lot in Port Alberni. For the first time we had to do laundry, which we did in a laundromat nearby. Afterwards, we drove back the same way to the east coast that we had come the day before. The next stop was in the town of Courtenay, where there was a 'Springtoberfest' going on. And sure enough, a brewery in the town was decorated in Bavarian style and there was German beer and German food, such as pretzels and spaetzle. A piece of home in Canada! The only thing missing was German folk music, but that would probably have been too much :-)
For the next night, we chose a campground, called a Recreation Site, near Campbell River on Campbell Lake. It was described on the internet that you could drive your car right up to the lake. However, what we didn't know was what the road would be like: a 15km gravel road with huge potholes led away from the highway. We even got stuck once, had to reverse back and take a different route. But all the shaking and all the dust on the car was definitely worth it when we arrived at the Recreation Site. The best campground I have ever stayed at by far! We were right in the forest by the lake with a camping table and a fire pit. We even had two neighbors and there was still a small fire burning in our fire pit, probably from another camper who had left shortly before.
So we looked for a little more wood and kept the fire burning. After a quick dinner (canned ravioli), we made S'mores by the campfire, melted marshmallows between two crackers and with a piece of chocolate. I still find the sticky marshmallow a little unusual, but it tastes good and that's the main thing ;-)
From our campsite, we also had a beautiful view of Campbell Lake with high snow-capped mountains in the background. And when the sky was turned pink by the sunset, it looked simply beautiful! I could have stood there and looked at the lake forever.
