Geiranger-Trollstigen

Wotae: 20.09.2018

After surviving the night, we headed to Trollstigen. The drive over Trollstigen is undoubtedly more breathtaking than any other drive we have taken so far. Geiranger-Trollstigen offers some highlights, especially the eleven hairpin bends of Trollstigen or the view from the Ørnesvingen viewpoint of the Geiranger Fjord. Beautifully wooded valleys, small villages in sheltered locations, steep mountains, and unique viewpoints offer an almost unbeatable view of the surrounding landscape.
Our drive on Trollstigen at an altitude of nearly 700 meters was very calm as we left early and there were hardly any people at that time. The weather also played along well most of the time, so we could enjoy the drive and the beautiful view afterwards. Afterwards, we continued on to the Geiranger Fjord. For this, we had to use a small ferry again. The ferries here are like buses for us. You drive from the road onto the ferry, pay on board, and then drive out again and the road continues there directly. When we arrived at the Geiranger Fjord, we could see a small cruise ship from above and were amazed when we drove down and the ship was no longer so small. After we had completed all these curves and heights, we navigated towards Oslo. As we followed the route, we suddenly ended up on a winding road that led upwards to the mountain Dalsnibba. This time, however, it was a total of 1042 meters that we reached. The road continued up to 1500 meters, but it was closed due to the weather conditions. So, we were standing at an altitude of over 1042 meters and almost 5 degrees in light snow and enjoyed the view of a lake, in the background the even higher mountains with white peaks. We realized again how small we actually are and how much we will miss this time here.
When we started to freeze and had taken enough photos, we drove our route a bit further to find a suitable place for the night. After a short time, we found one of the most beautiful places so far. Located right on a river with turquoise water so clear that you can also drink it. We reviewed the day, ate something, and then went to sleep, wrapped in our blankets.
