It's possible... we have come to appreciate the hostels on our North Sea route. We mostly stay in hostels, which are equipped like simple hotels but much cheaper. We already have sleeping bags and blankets with us. We can only recommend it; you can find hostels in many larger towns.
Many campsites also offer simple cabins for overnight stays, but shower and toilet facilities are on the campsite. The cabins are in a slightly higher price range than the hostels.
Cheap hotels are already rare up here, so it's advisable to book in advance during the peak season.
Today we saw another form of overnight accommodation, a lonely construction trailer (good living room) in the forest with a stove for warming up and cooking. We slept outside in small, open huts. Campfires are also possible, but you have to split the wood yourself. There is also an outhouse.
But today it was too wet and too cold for us to stay there. But it would definitely be fun in the summer.
