65. From Xanthi to Ouranoupoli

Day 65: We spent the night very close to the center of Xanthi, in order to come to the market square of Xanthi as early and unhindered as possible this morning. We already observed yesterday evening how the frames for the stands were being set up. Therefore, we had a premonition that something "bigger" will happen. Here you can get almost everything, but clothing and agricultural products dominate the market scene.

With our hands full of shopping bags, we leave the market in the late morning and make our way back to Chalkidiki. The bad weather period there should be over.

On the way, we stop for a few hours at Vrasna Beach. Another one of those very wide beaches with appropriate infrastructure behind it. A good place for a siesta and a short stroll on the beach before continuing on.

In the late afternoon, we finally arrive at our campsite near Ouranoupoli, the last place before the border to the Monastic Republic of Mount Athos. There we unexpectedly meet Daniela, whom we met on Euboea. In the evening, we light up our grill, because the fresh vegetables from the market need to be processed. It tastes delicious, without any additional ingredients (herbs etc.) and frippery. The vegetables simply have a wonderful taste of their own.
