Day 50: This morning we had a long chat with neighbors from the campsite who come from Kolbermoor. She is a moderator at the Rosenheimer Charivari station. Both are very likeable and it's just nice to exchange ideas with them.

Afterwards, we drive across Athens to Piraeus, the largest port in the Mediterranean. First, we walk around the marina on foot before heading to the passenger ship area. It is huge. There are several larger ferries at anchor as well as the "Viking Sea", a medium-sized cruise ship. The size and number of ships is really impressive.

Then we stroll to the market. It looks like a miniature version of the Athens Central Market. We still hope to find a really nice market. But we have to look in other areas as well. Before we march back to the parking lot, we stop by the trendiest delicatessen in the Athens area. They have delicacies from all over the country. We stock up there for dinner (already enjoyed with pleasure).

Nuggy is at a sports area on the beach. There is everything from small football pitches to tennis and swimming. Everything looks good here, the houses are also quite fancy in this area. Overall, Piraeus makes a much better impression on us than its reputation suggests.

During the drive out of Athens, we got lost twice in the heat of the moment. But in the end, it only cost us about fifteen minutes.

In the evening, we land near Chalkida, the main town on the island of Euboea. However, we are still on the mainland side. We are standing on a dirt road next to the road along the beach. You have a nice view of the sea and the sunset, but otherwise, it's nothing special. During the evening walk along the sea, we come across a beach that is familiar from the Adriatic coast, with sun loungers next to each other. And the cushions are being distributed right now. Obviously, customers are expected on the weekend. For the Athenians, it's only a stone's throw away. We haven't seen anything like this here before!
