Of water and church and construction sites

Wotae: 09.09.2023

Two days to catch up on, because last night I ran out of steam for a moment when it came to writing. Now full power! Yesterday we had a full program planned. With the ferry to Ornes and there first to the Feige Fossen (Natasha is supposed to get her waterfall), then to the oldest stave church in Urnes and finally to Nigardsbreen, part of Norway's largest glacier. Get in the car and off we go.

Back onto the small mini ferry so that you can then drive forward again. Three or four cars, a few pedestrians and the place is already full. The journey is short and yet particularly impressive. It may be because of the anticipation of the waterfall. When we arrived in Ornes, we only drove a few kilometers to the waterfall and Natascha's joy was enormous. The way up is adventurous again. Here too, the network spoke of an easy path. We should slowly take note of the different perceptions of “easy routes”. But the entire path is worth it, the sound of the water can always be heard and the river that arises from the fall is wonderful to see.

After this little adventure, we took it easy and started the cultural program. The stave church of Urnes. We listened with fascination to the short personal tour and admired this architectural work of art. Not only has this wooden building stood and lasted for almost 1000 years, but also the attention to detail that was shown, the many carvings and decorations make us look around with wide eyes.

After the cultural program, we would have liked to eat a deer burger in the courtyard opposite. Unfortunately it was closed, but luckily we still had one or two granola bars in the car.

Now the glacier was to follow and we set off straight away. Suddenly: traffic jam. Complete standstill and the police are approaching. Probably a traffic accident. Since we didn't know how long this would last, we tried an alternative route, but failed due to a construction site including a road closure. So unfortunately the glacier plan melted away.

How do you still have a nice evening? Yep - with pizza 🤤

After the pizza we went back to the campsite and slowly prepared for the following day of travel. A nice final photo of this beautiful view of the village opposite and then it's time to snuggle up in our bunk again.

Hab keinen einzigen Holzwurm gesehen😂
