Spontaneously, we change our plans, cancel the last two nights in Nungwi and join Jens and Tüte, who have rented a car from Dar es Salaam and want to explore Mikumi National Park on their own. Afterwards, we take the ferry to the mainland, pick up the car and head to Campsite Bastian, where we spend two nights. The car ride feels like 1000 hours due to the road conditions and continuous police checks (where we have to pay money even though we haven't committed any offense) 😅. Nevertheless, we are very excited to go on safari again, and even on our own 🤩. It's wonderful to meet such nice and authentic people with whom we can travel and experience adventures together for a few more days.
Highlights:
Elephants right in front of the car, the very cozy accommodation, the fun and conversations with Jens and Tüte, exploring the national park on our own, seeing so many different animals, the evening and early morning atmosphere in the national park
Exciting moments:
Driving the car on a tree trunk at the hospital grounds, racing over the water-filled potholes and hoping not to get stuck, tsetse fly panic - especially Tüte and I, while Jens and Flo remain very relaxed 😅🙈
