Tag 17: Kovin - Stara Palanka

Today I set off at 8 a.m. after a good breakfast. I wanted to get to the ferry in Stara Palanka, 40 km away, before 10:30 a.m., as it wasn't due to leave until 1:30 p.m. So I struggled through the headwind (which felt even stronger today), but just before I reached my destination a German man came towards me and told me that there was probably no ferry running today (too dangerous because of the wind). He was just about to go back and take the next bridge. Going back wasn't an option for me, so I drove to the ferry anyway, only to find that there was actually nothing running. So I went to a restaurant on the shore and had a bite to eat. Then I got a room straight away. Apparently the wind is going to get better from tomorrow. At the moment it's almost a storm and cycling is really not without danger. Today I was blown off my bike while I was standing still!

If the ferry doesn't run tomorrow, I'll have to make a small detour via the Romanian side (I'm right on the border with Romania). Unfortunately, the Romanian side isn't that nice, so I'd like to stay on the Serbian side. Ultimately, the weather will decide tomorrow morning. Until then, I've done some laundry and will go back to the restaurant for dinner later.
