City, Beach, Fishing, VIPs

We really like Adelaide, we spent a few days here exploring the city and the beach. The beach reminds us of the Baltic Sea, it immediately felt familiar. Otherwise, the city center is really comparable to the one in Bremervörde, small and cute.

At the beach, we went fishing on a pier and Mike caught a few baby salmon and a blue mud crab, a delicacy here in Australia that is highly valued. What can we say, we live in the car so it's not easy to prepare and eat the crab. We gave the big one to a family who was trying to catch these crabs next to us. They were overjoyed and quite amazed that Mike caught the crab with his fishing rod.

A bit outside Adelaide (20 km), we camped on a private property, which was actually more like a farm. Backpackers helped out with food and accommodation on this farm, it was really nice here. We were even allowed to use the farmer's tools to replace our headlights.

We spent a few more days in Adelaide because we actually want to start our trip to Ayers Rock on Tuesday (02.02.) and take another person who will only arrive in Adelaide on Tuesday. You probably can't hear it anymore, but in the last few days we thought again that it would be nice to come home with a bit more money and looked for farm work again to collect the days for the second year.

Our plan is to complete the days and then work longer at the farm (you are allowed to work for a maximum of 6 months in a row on the same farm) and then fly home. On Monday (01.02.) we have a meeting with a farmer nearby, let's see how it goes. If nothing comes out of it, we are not upset about it either.

Plan B for us is to go to Ayers Rock and then continue our journey to Perth, visit Bernd and Michelle (the family we worked for), sell the car and then fly further =). After all, New Zealand is still waiting for us. On the way to our campsite today, the navigation system said 'take the Ferry'.. so we took the ferry. We were like 'What?'. There was actually a ferry here that only fits one car, so we were VIPs ;-). The ferry has a 24-hour service and was free of charge, really great! The campsite was by the water and we went fishing again =) We are looking forward to meeting the farmer tomorrow.
