Santa Catalina

Wotae: 03.03.2018

From the Caribbean coast we continued towards the Pacific coast with the hope of better weather. Since we had to travel from north to south through the country, we made a stopover in David. There we treated ourselves to a hostel with a pool. However, the highlight there was the little coati that roams around the hostel:-)

The next day we arrived in Santa Catalina and immediately started looking for a provider of snorkeling tours to Isla Coiba. After a short search, we found one and booked a tour for the day after. We ended the tiring travel day with a delicious pizza.

The following day was mainly for relaxation. After a good sleep and a good breakfast, we spent the rest of the day lying on the beach. Due to the waves, there were many surfers here, but the beach was also suitable for swimming. In the afternoon, when it was low tide, the beach was incredibly spacious. However, the water came back faster than expected, so we had to save our stuff a couple of times. Nevertheless, it was a very nice day at the beach.

The next day, the snorkeling tour to Coiba Marine National Park was on the program. After a short briefing, we took the boat to the first snorkeling spot. The boat ride was not so comfortable and back-friendly, probably due to the boat.

Already during the first snorkeling session, we saw several sea turtles, sharks, and huge schools of fish, which was very impressive. After a second snorkeling session, we had lunch on Coiba Island and could relax on the beautiful beach afterwards. In the afternoon, there was another snorkeling session, again with a very beautiful underwater world. On the way back, we could also observe some dolphins from the boat. Overall, it was a really nice trip. It would have been even better if we had seen whale sharks and manta rays, but luck is not always on our side. We also had some problems with our guide, as he only spoke Spanish and didn't really help us in the water.

Next stop is Panama City.
