After 2 ½ hours of winding bus ride through the jungle, we reached our transfer station in Ipoh. We easily found our connecting bus to Lumut. Another 2 ½ hours later, we arrived at the port of Lumut. The ferry took us to the small island of Pangkor in about 30 minutes.
The island is mainly covered in jungle, with only a few stretches of coastline hosting small villages. The island is a hidden gem (thanks Andy and Stee) as it has very few Western tourists. Our small hotel was located in the main village of Pekan Pangkor. The windowless room was simple but had air conditioning and hot water, which was perfectly adequate for us. We paid approximately CHF 20 per night.
We rented a scooter to explore the island better. A ride around the island – on the only road – took just 30 minutes. On both days, we visited the beautiful Coral Beach in Nipah. We enjoyed two wonderful days at the beach. The water temperature was almost 30 degrees. After a little climbing over the rocks, we even found our own little private beach. In the evening, we enjoyed delicious fresh fish at the small local beach restaurants. On Monday, our journey continues to Langkawi.
