Eungella National Park

Wotae: 27.09.2019

As a day trip, we went to Eungella National Park. It is located about an hour west of the city of Mackay in the inland. The road there is passable for campervans without all-wheel drive in the dry season =). It should be mentioned that there were 3 river crossings, which made the whole way even more exciting. It made us feel like kids again =). However, the water was only 10 cm deep. Too bad 😅

We started the hike without any high expectations. We were on the way from A to B and just wanted to do something different that day instead of just driving. We even considered whether the detour was worth it. Luckily, we went there and it was worth it: hiking trails with many small waterfalls, natural pools in the middle of the rainforest, and views of the valley at the river crossings. Absolutely beautiful! So far, our best hiking tour.

We had to cross the river multiple times. At one point, there was a fallen tree that must have been hundreds of years old (maybe😎)

At the end of the hiking trail was the Wheel of Fire, a freezing rock pool at the highest accessible point of the waterfalls. Caro slipped and got wet while climbing over the boulders =).

On the hiking trail, we met a very nice old man who was also hiking there. Some people in Australia do that when they get older. They are called grey nomads and they travel through the country camping, just like us.

Often retirees from the south who flee to the warmer north in winter. He also took a bath in the cold water. He told us that you have to do something to keep old age at bay. 👍
