Auf in die Tropen

Wotae: 30.03.2019

Yesterday was a very uneventful day, there is actually nothing to report about it...

Today I set off again to Mackay. The drive was as monotonous as always here, as there are actually no cities along the way. That's why there are signs with quiz questions on the roadside, so you don't fall asleep! (Now I also know which plant stands for Queensland: an orchid species)

By the way, I am exclusively traveling in Queensland for these 2 weeks, which is 5 times the size of Germany in terms of area.

The subtropical climate is also noticeable: 33° and 100% humidity 😎 (and 24° at night)

Between the maximum air-conditioned rooms and outside, it feels like going from the fridge to the sauna.

The 80,000 inhabitants city Mackay is quite nondescript. I was at the beach this afternoon, but the sea says goodbye when the tide is low and only puddles remain where thousands of little blue crabs frolic.

Throughout Queensland, swimming in the sea is only allowed and recommended in designated areas with jellyfish nets. And one should also be careful of the other unpleasant animals, such as crocodiles (apparently Germans are a bit dumber than others, otherwise why should the sign say 'caution' 🤔)

This evening I had fish and chips... Well, that was the 5-week amount of fat! 😁

And now I am lying well fed in bed and enjoying the cool breeze from the storm outside!

Good night and see you soon!
