In 1990 I rode over the Iseran pass. In an 8000-meter expedition you would say in Alpine style (fast, with little luggage). On the first day, I still worked in Palézieux from 04 - 12 o'clock. Then I rode 145 km and 2000 m over the Great St. Bernard to Aosta. On the second day, I went over the Little St. Bernard and Iseran, 180 km and 3700 m to St. Jean, and on the third day, I returned over 4 passes (Col de la Madeleine) to Martigny, 186 km 4600 m elevation gain. Then continue with regional trains to Palezieux (at that time, bicycle self-loading was only possible on regional trains).
