This long journey through New Zealand has now come to an end, but we wanted to make the most of our last day. On the west coast, not far from Auckland, lies Piha Beach, which we set off for this morning. Because of the forecasted rainy weather in Auckland, we didn't bring any swimming gear, which we regretted when we arrived at this beautiful beach. It was very windy to stormy and the sea here has very dangerous currents. But the Beach Guard is keeping a good watch here.
For the last time on this trip, we went on a short hike through the New Zealand rainforest to the Kitekite Falls. Of course, after thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting our footwear. Jana also explained the trees that she already knew: Pohutukawa, Kauri, Kawakawa, Manuka Tree, Ti Kouka (Cabbage Tree), and Silver fern. Now we know them too.
The Kitekite Falls are not signposted, but still very popular and well visited, also for swimming.
An early return to our accommodation was advised, as we still had to pack our suitcases. It was quite a task, as Jana and Maja's luggage had to fit as well; we managed.
We would recommend the burgers at 'Tiger Burger', which we enjoyed for dinner. It's a trendy and cool location that is heavily frequented. And then it was time to say goodbye to Jana, as we have to get up very early tomorrow for our flight to Melbourne. It wasn't easy after such a beautiful and intense time, but we will probably see her again in the summer.
