Sleepless in Seattle: From 25°C in Hawaii to 10°C in Seattle

Udgivet: 10.04.2018

6.4. - 9.4.

Finally arrived in Seattle!

What a temperature drop! Only 10°C when we got off the plane! During the descent, we could see the snowy Rocky Mountains really well! You could believe we landed in the depths of winter!

Aside from the low temperatures, and the constant time zone changes (which we no longer understand), we were also completely exhausted. We flew overnight - and unfortunately, I couldn't sleep at all. So it took us quite a while the next day to gather the energy to take our bikes out of the boxes and assemble them (at the airport, of course).

Eventually, we managed it ;-)

Then we had to find accommodation for the next few days.

Normally, we consider the following options:

- Campsite (if there's one nearby, because: very cheap and bike-friendly)

- Wild camping (only in safe areas, so we haven't tried that in America yet)

- AirBnB (relatively spontaneous, but a bit more expensive)

- Booking.com (only in case of emergency, because: VERY expensive!)

This time, however, we contacted a few people through Warmshowers (a platform where cyclists provide accommodation, a warm shower, and often food, and in return, they can also stay with other members - completely free and without obligation)

In New Zealand, we heard about this community for the first time, but we didn't try to get a place to sleep there, and we never received any feedback in Hawaii. However, this time it worked out great! We received two answers in just a few hours... It's really great how hospitable the people here are!

And so we drove to Ryan and his 3-year-old daughter Williamina, not far from the airport. We stayed there for 3 nights and camped in their garden.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't quite cooperative. It was definitely the coldest nights we have experienced on our world trip! And you could really feel that (temperatures around zero, that wasn't very funny).

It also rained almost every day. But we still had a really great time! Ryan and Williamina were amazing. We went to downtown Seattle together and then wandered around a bit.

A great city! We're thrilled!

Very American, but somehow it feels like being in Vancouver, Canada.
