30.12. - Dominica 🇩🇲

Udgivet: 31.12.2016

We started the day very comfortably. The sun peeked through the curtains, putting a smile on our faces. Since we couldn't board until 10 o'clock, we enjoyed the view with a coffee and some pastries. Afterwards, we all had breakfast together in the restaurant, with omelettes, waffles, and pancakes. Although the waiter was not very attentive, we were very satisfied with the meal. We lost track of time and had to quickly pack our things to arrive at the meeting point on time. From the balcony, we had already noticed the lush greenery of the rainforest. On the other hand, the port was by far the worst. We wandered around among containers, warehouses, and loading equipment trying to find the exit. We arrived at the exit a bit later than agreed and saw our guide Levi waiting for us with the Bumpingtours sign. He greeted us warmly and led us to his car. We were the only guests, which gave us some privileges. On the way to our first stop, the Champagne Reef, he told us a lot about the city of Roseau, the island, and life here. After a short drive, we reached the parking lot. From there, it was only a few minutes' walk on a narrow wooden path over the rocky beach to the bay. Once there, we prepared for our snorkeling trip. Levi swam ahead and showed us various highlights of the underwater world. We especially liked the uniqueness of the underground volcanic activity, which produced sparkling champagne bubbles. These tickled our whole body and reminded us of a kind of whirlpool. The hour in the water flew by and we were very glad to have Levi with us, who occasionally dove to the bottom to film or show us something. The next stop was 40 minutes away and took us through the green rainforest and some colorful houses. Since the original road had been destroyed by a landslide the day before, we had to take a narrow detour that was slightly longer and more adventurous. Our destination was the cave from 'Pirates of the Caribbean', the so-called Titou Gorge. On the short walk, we discovered a small crab on the side of the road, which we immediately took a picture of. At the entrance of the cave, we put on belly straps and were warned about the cold fresh water. So he recommended that we jump in right away. But that's only for the brave, as the rocks were quite close together. This deterred me and in the end only Stephan and Levi jumped in, of course. Schwägi and I took the stairs, and then Danny decided at the last second to jump in as well. I didn't find the water as cold as announced. The cave was very beautiful. When you looked up, you could see the sky and the green forest. At the end of the cave, there was a small waterfall where he pulled us with a life ring. Here too, Stephan showed courage and jumped from the small waterfall. We only jumped from a small rock ledge, but it was already a lot of fun. After that, we excitedly returned to the bus and started the return journey. On it was the second to last stop, the waterfalls 'Trafalgar Falls'. To reach them, we walked for about 10 minutes through the impressive rainforest and took pictures of the two waterfalls that originated from two different rivers. The last sightseeing stop gave us a panoramic view of Roseau. There we saw not only the layout of the well-maintained city, the large stadium, and the harbor, but also a hummingbird flying around the bush. The excursion passed by too quickly. As requested, we were dropped off at the bank to get cash and then chauffeured back to the port. There, we said goodbye to Levi and thanked him warmly for the beautiful day. Before we went on the ship, we strolled through the market in the old warehouse and bought postcards. Once on board, we had a small meal as tradition, then went to the gym for an evening cocktail, and finally had dinner with our teacher couple. But this time we weren't the last ones in the restaurant. Tired, we went to bed and fell into the land of dreams.
