Little Italy, Golden Gate Bridge & Wine, Cheese, Chocolate and Olive Oil Tasting

Udgivet: 08.08.2017

On Sunday, I got to know my group members on the bus tour. I could have imagined everything in terms of age or origin, but what I didn't expect was such a small group. There are four of us (3x Switzerland, 1x England) plus our driver. A woman did sign up, but she didn't show up. I asked the driver if it was worth it for the tour operator, and he said Intrepid promises a guarantee of execution, he has also experienced a tour with 2 people before. In Las Vegas, however, 2 Brits and 2 Australians will join us.
A small group has advantages and disadvantages - a big advantage is that we now have a lot of space on the bus (it actually has 14 seats). On the second night, I even got a single room because the registered person still hadn't shown up. So I could catch up on some sleep, as I had been exploring the nightlife for 6 evenings last week and was pretty exhausted. 😂 (Exhausted, but happy😊)
What I perceive as a disadvantage, but others would surely appreciate, is the Swiss majority and the associated Swiss German spoken all day. But I often attached myself to the Londoner and the driver and chatted about all sorts of things along the way. For the two of them, it's certainly not so pleasant when we speak Swiss German among ourselves when they are standing next to us. So I tried a few times to speak English with the Swiss when the others were nearby, but it is of course totally unnatural. But let's see, tomorrow is another day to practice.

The first group activity on Sunday in San Francisco was an exploration of the two neighborhoods North Beach and Little Italy. An Italian dinner was booked there, we received antipasti platters, pasta and pizza. (American style pizza...yum).
The next morning we drove across the Golden Gate Bridge, stopped there several times for short walks, and then drove to Sonoma, where a tour of the winery and a tasting was planned. In Sonoma we also had lunch and had time to explore the town center, which was pretty small though. We went to several stores and tasted cheese, chocolate, and olive oil.
Afterwards, the driver showed us Jack London Park, since we were staying at the 'Jack London Lodge'. Dinner was not included (from now on there won't be any meals for a week, we will always decide on site what to eat) so we looked for a nice restaurant nearby, which was quite hip and offered great salads.
