As it was going to be very hot today, I decided to have breakfast as early as possible (6:30 a.m.). The routine at the hotel at this time seemed somehow familiar to me. Craftsmen (recognizable by their clothing) quickly had a more or less extensive breakfast and got into their vans to roll away from the parking lot.
I actually started riding at around 8:00 a.m. The route led along the Doubs River and the associated canals. The usual Tour de France contenders were on the road again, as were a few cyclists (max. 8). Today, only of my age and older.
Since I rode quickly, still avoiding the intense heat, I decided to have lunch in Dole, a larger city just before my booked accommodation. After struggling with a few French words when ordering, the "kebab man" clearly asked me "Do you speak German?". Apparently, I had not spoken French or maybe not spoken French at all.
Checking in at the IBIS Budget was done at the machine. I got up to the message "Due to a technical problem, your credit card cannot be accepted." but I didn't make it to my room. Just a reminder: Because of the intense heat (it was indeed hot), I had been in a hurry. Because of the shower and stuff. Check-in was from 12:00; I arrived at 2:00 p.m.; but reception was scheduled to open at 4:00 p.m. I owe it to a nice cleaning technician, probably from Africa, that reception was manned at 2:15 p.m. Merci beaucoup!
Lastly, I went shopping at ALDI. Where am I actually?
