Asturians

Udgivet: 28.09.2023

Just stay where you like, right? We've been standing still for a few days and somehow that's exactly the right thing at the moment, somehow the place here won't let us go, somehow we feel totally at home here. No wonder, because the region is incredibly beautiful.

Asturias is popular for beautiful beaches, rugged coastline, mountains and medieval architecture. More or less chance brought us to this beautiful place. A campsite with a view of Troenzo Bay. By the way, that's also what the campsite is called. The place is designed with a lot of love, the staff is nice, everything is clean and there is a vegetable stand opposite with regional and organically grown fruits and vegetables.

From the campsite you can reach many other beaches on foot, which are in a fantastic location and really invite you to linger.

Somehow I can't get enough of this. Every morning we get up at sunrise, walk to the headland next door and watch the sun appear out of nowhere. The dawn, then a little sparkle and then it slowly appears in its full glory over the horizon. Then we walk back again. The sun is now so high that it illuminates the beautiful mountains in the distance. The headland is overgrown with greenery, so that a herd of cows seems to feel really comfortable there. From a distance we watch them romp, graze and the young have their power struggles. We can observe when the tide comes in and suddenly there is no beach to be seen. And in the morning we go for a walk on the beach in the evening when the tide is out.

A bay further on, the beach really invites you to stay. Fine, almost white sand, crystal blue water and in the distance there are huge rocks in the water. There is a small, simple beach bar next to the beach. Did you know that it is appropriate here to pour Sidra from one meter away? This probably binds oxygen and improves the taste of the cider. Well, I have no idea. Definitely tastes good.

Today the waves were pretty high. Swim over the top, through the bottom or with the wave. It didn't always work and a lot of sand ended up in my pants, but it was definitely fun. Tomorrow we will rent a surfboard and try our luck at surfing for the first time. I'm looking forward to.

It's really good to stay in one place for a few days because I'll tell you how it is. Traveling can also be tiring. Every day you have to look at where you sleep, every day you get new impressions, you constantly have to find your way around. On the one hand, it's super cool and you're happy and want to discover and see as much as possible. On the other hand, it's really good to switch off and settle down for a bit. Yes, maybe it's good to have a little bit of everyday life and not immediately think about packing up again and being on the go. Especially on a long trip, you need a certain balance of both, because after the “travel break” it's even more fun to get in the car and continue driving. The place here is just right at the moment, which is why we have extended our stay for the third time because we originally only wanted to stay one night.

And as much as I like wild camping, it's also very pleasant to be on a campsite sometimes. That's almost a luxury. Especially one like this.

Yesterday we drove from the campsite into the mountains. Which is really great, because they are only a mere 30km from the sea. The hike in the Picos de Europa National Park was simply indescribable. You were right in the middle of the mountains. We first climbed 3km up the mountain on a small, narrow path, then the view was simply divine. The path became straighter and straighter and went directly along a rock face. Sometimes it went through natural, small tunnels, sometimes over hill and dale and most of the time there was a goat not far away. By the way, they always look for the best and funniest places to take a break.

So really, I'm excited about Northern Spain. Spain offers so much variety. The landscape here is very green and the climate is totally pleasant. Everywhere you go is just beautiful. Northern Spain really surprises me. Or did you know that northern Spain has a semi-desert and beautiful mountains?

Luckily, I know now.
