Our taxi arrived at 5:15 AM. Off we went to Zurich to the airport. We departed at 09:25 AM on flight number LX 006 to Chicago. We faced a flight lasting 9 hours and 20 minutes.
We landed around noon local time in Chicago. We passed through customs much faster compared to New York. There were some issues at the baggage claim, where Matthias was stopped by a drug dog. Matthias had to empty his backpack, which contained chocolate rice wafers that the dog must have sniffed out.
Everything went smoothly with the rental car pickup at Hertz, and before we knew it, we were seated in a Chevrolet Malibu. And off we went from Chicago to St. Joseph. The first stretch of the journey wasn't great, as we drove through former industrial towns. There used to be a lot of iron and steel construction here. Our first stop was in Gary to check out a decaying church. After that, we drove through the Indiana Dunes State Park. The shoreline road along Lake Michigan offered breathtaking views at times. We arrived at our hotel in St. Joseph around 7 PM. We are booked at the Holiday Inn and Suites for the next two nights. After settling into our hotel room, we went out for a small pizza. Then a quick visit to the supermarket to stock up on drinks before we fell into bed, utterly exhausted.
Unfortunately, we can't upload any pictures at the moment, for some reason.
