„Schockmoment“/ „shock moment“

Udgivet: 17.10.2020

Here I am again! ☺️

A bit earlier than planned, but there is already something to tell again. 😂

Tuesday was the first day of submission of our projects. I have not yet returned the results. On such days we always have a dinner together with all employees of the ranch. :D

In the evening we watched a movie to finish the project. The language is still a bit difficult in some places. Especially with movies that have an American accent. There is not much left to do than to just think about what could be said in some scenes. 😂

Somehow I'm afraid that afterwards I'll only be able to speak English with the typical 'American slang'. 😂 But some words or sentences sound really cool. 😎

On Wednesday we wanted to pick apples from the trees with the 'gator' (a small open jeep) during our working hours. None of the trees had any. 😂 Then we drove by car from the ranch area to try another place. We actually found a tree full of apples. Because the tree was so high we parked the car under the tree to use the car as a ladder. I think they don't take cars too seriously here. 😂 So we wouldn't think of anything like that. 😅 There must have been about four or five people on the hood and the roof of the car. Here the car seems to be a normal utility item. 🤔

Nevertheless it is great fun to drive around with these things! Now I can say: 'I drove a gator! That is an insider's phrase with us. 😂 The Americans find it funny when I pronounce this sentence with their American accent.

Now we come to the moment of shock...

On Thursday morning we had class again. Suddenly we heard a mega loud alarm sound. Nobody knew where this sound came from. So we broke off the lesson to find out the cause. First we thought of a smoke detector or something. Sometimes they go on when the batteries are empty or something like that. 🤷🏼 So a few of us ran upstairs to see where our rooms were so we could rule that out. Suddenly one of us ran into the classroom and shouted that there was a fire in the laundromat. The clothes of a student, in one of our four dryers, had caught fire. 😳 It was smoking and stinking, so we smelled it all day long in our rooms. Can such things actually explode? 😧 We don't know yet what the cause is. In any case, the dryer is very old.

Well, the clothes are ruined now. I was really lucky that it was not my clothes. I had used the dryer the night before. A few hours later it happened... Was it preservation? We can be really grateful that nothing worse happened. In the end, it was only property damage. Thank God! 🙏🏻

This morning, just before getting up, we heard a siren. I just thought to myself: 'Please, not something again.' This time it was not on our ranch. There had been a fire in the city in a family's house. A child of the family was there and life came. It is really sad how quickly life can be over. 😕

But I do not want to end this post negatively!

The ranch cat recently gave birth to kittens. They are so cute and so tiny. 😍 I had one on my arm today.

Wow - how much did I write? 😂

But there was also a lot going on and then so many exciting things...

See you soon then! 👋🏻

Or as we always say:' See you later alligator. After a while crocodile!' 🐊
