Hill up, hill down...Auckland or Tāmaki Makaurau

Udgivet: 30.01.2024

1.4 million people live in Auckland, which is around 1/3 of the New Zealand population - but you somehow don't notice it. The city seems to consist only of hills, always going up or down steeply. Just right for my slim astral body in the middle of the New Zealand summer. Around 30 degrees and a lot of wind during the day, it's great in the shade! Sun protection is absolutely necessary, LFS 50! Due to its geographical location, the sun has a particularly large amount of radiation to offer, so you should always have something on your head, even at low temperatures or in the shade.

I decided on my Australian hat, bought overpriced in Würzburg and supposedly made of real kangaroo leather but probably made by the lucky Heideschaf from Bessenbach: Child reverently calls me "Indiana-Pitti" - credit where credit is due. And I don't look like a tourist at all!

Besides the many hills (Auckland is built on 53 inactive volcanoes), the biggest challenge at the moment is driving on the left - especially signaling. The indicator is on the right of the steering wheel - so every time I change lanes, the windshield wiper comes on 😂. Plus the really small car, a real dwarf carriage, this Ford Ranger...exciting!

Dwarven carriage, with a little squeezing it works...

I got jet lag myself. Local time is Wednesday 3 a.m., in Aschebersch it is now Tuesday 3 p.m. We stay at the "Copthorne Hotel Auckland City" not far from the city center, a slightly older, smaller hotel without a lot of frills - that's fine!

A little story on the side: room, two double beds, three people, a mosquito...who does it hit 8 times? That child is really cute!

Oh, I completely forgot: of course I thank FRIZZ the magazine Ashaffenburg - for whatever... and Jassi .
