Anglesea on the GOR

Udgivet: 25.10.2017

On the weekend of 20.10, the big camping trip to the Great Ocean Road took place! On the occasion of the round birthdays of several family members of Jenna, the whole family gathered at a camping resort. Some had rented a small holiday cottage there and others were camping. The five of us were assigned a spot directly opposite the beach entrance and set up our huge trailer tent there. We were about a 5-minute walk away from the grandparents and other family members, so the kids could sleep without noise at night. Luckily, Grandma and Grandpa, among others, had a small cottage with a kitchen and showers, so we didn't have to use the communal showers;)

Since we arrived on Friday afternoon, there wasn't much program on that day, except for a little visit to the beach and a communal self-cooked dinner. Since I usually have the weekend 'off', I could spend my Saturday afternoon after our brunch at the small 'shopping and restaurant promenade' as I pleased. Luckily, I had my sports clothes and running shoes with me and found a 6.3km signposted hiking trail that ran along the cliffs by the beach. However, I was on the road longer than expected, as the 6.3km referred to the one-way trip and it wasn't a 'round trip', but led to a beautiful bay after 6.3km (I was lucky to be rewarded with this view). So I walked and hiked almost 13km and had a strenuous but relaxing afternoon for myself and a good workout (up and down the cliffs x2) :) The weather was also great, around 16°C - 18°C, and there was always a bit of wind!

On Saturday afternoon, Jenna, her mom, Harry, and I decided to visit the nearby Chocolaterie and Ice Cream Factory. It is located between the towns of Anglesea and Torquay and everyone enjoys free entry and a little 'free chocolate tasting'. It's not really huge and consists mostly of the sales area of numerous chocolate varieties, for consumption and as beauty products. There is also a cafe that offers breakfast, coffee, lunch, special desserts, and ice cream, and you can watch the chocolatiers at work through a large glass window. Especially for Harry, the visit was very fascinating, as he hasn't really tried much chocolate in his life yet, and in general, everything there is very child-friendly.

On Saturday evening, we went to the actual birthday party of the three family members, who heartfeltly and movedly thanked everyone for making the effort to come from everywhere (there were about 50 people, some even came from Sydney!) There was a big buffet for all the guests, and I got to meet many new people who were all super nice to me! Especially Harry and his cousin Mace, who is the same age, were eagerly waiting for the cake to be cut while the speeches were being made :) Since it was already after 9 pm after the cake cutting, Jenna and I went back to the grandparents' holiday cottage to put the kids to sleep. They were really exhausted from all the hustle and bustle, and both of us had a nice and funny evening with lots of chocolate and a little wine:)

There will be a separate blog entry for Sunday and the return journey
