As I write these lines, I'm just passing by the small island of Pokonji Dol near Hvar by ferry. I recognize it immediately by the church. It's incredible that a few days ago I was in the same place on the sea, but on a small boat with 3 Englishmen. Passing by Hvar is beautiful, it brings back memories of what I experienced here in the last few days.
In Split, I'm staying in a brand new hostel that opened just 1 month ago. Everything is modern and clean accordingly. Besides, it's not busy at all, probably because it doesn't have many reviews yet. I immediately get along with Boris, the hostel owner. You can tell that the hostel is his little baby and he works hard for his guests.
I meet Imane, a Moroccan, and we go out to eat. When we're sitting in the restaurant, suddenly Eze and Franco show up, with whom I was already hanging out in Hvar! Meeting people again randomly on the further journey seems to be a typical backpacking phenomenon, which I have already experienced several times in Thailand.
For a few days, I've been in contact with Dario, a Couchsurfer from Split. He couldn't host me, but he has already given me many tips for my trip. I meet him in the evening and he takes me through the historic old town. In Split, history and architecture from several centuries come together. In combination with Dario's storytelling, even I, who is not so interested in history, am fascinated by this place. We walk through the historic palace, where you can sit comfortably in the middle and listen to live music. Dario is one of those people who have such a positive aura that you feel like you've known each other forever.
